Forth Green Freeport is one of the UK’s 12 designated Freeports, designed to attract investment, stimulate innovation, and unlock new economic opportunities across key port regions.

As one of Scotland’s two Green Freeports, we bring together industry, academia, and local authorities to accelerate growth across new green technologies, alternative fuels, and advanced manufacturing.  With a strong regional partnership and a nationally supported incentive package, Forth Green Freeport provides a dynamic environment for businesses to grow, compete globally and create long‑term benefits for local communities.

Forth Green Freeport is open for business.

Forth Green Freeport is Scotland’s largest opportunity to deliver a just transition to net zero, to attract significant inward investment, to build international trade and export capability, and to create high quality and well-paid jobs.

Forth Green Freeport comprises of both private and public organisations who work together to deliver the vision of the project. Forth Green Freeport is an environment where businesses can grow and thrive, where activity is environmentally sustainable and where innovation flourishes. Forth Green Freeport has access to a suite of incentives, which positions it as a lead international trade hub, a location of choice for inward investment, a leader in clean technologies, and an accelerator of job creation.

Spanning over 500 hectares across Fife, Falkirk and Edinburgh, our Tax Sites have been strategically selected to encourage growth. The impact of Forth Green Freeport is national but local communities benefit too, with new jobs and economic regeneration and growth aided by increased non-domestic rates for local authorities.

Investments stimulate growth in trade, providing expanded logistics and trade capacity for existing and emerging industries including advanced modular systems, biofuels, hydrogen and carbon capture, e-commerce, pharmaceuticals and storage, as well as support additional R&D capability and green incubator space to drive SME and start-up business growth.

Our focused investments and joint ambition minimise the risk of a net zero shift for workers in the petrochemicals sector, providing a hot bed for innovation and creating well-paid, high-quality jobs in some of the most deprived areas of Scotland, addressing the need for wealth retention and place creation in areas closest to industrial activity.
